Abstract
The solvation of Eu3+ in acetonitrile-water solutions was investigated by nuclear magnetic resonance technique. The water proton shift was found to depend strongly on solvent composition, whereas the acetonitrile proton shift was much less sensitive to this parameter. The results show strong preferential solvation by water. A simple model is suggested for quantitative analysis, leading to fair agreement with experimental results. The water chemical shift is discussed in terms of pseudo contact interaction.
