New design method for one-dimensional photonic crystal reflectors in strip waveguides

Abstract

we present a method for designing a highly reflective one dimensional photonic crystal mirror embedded in a single mode silicon ridge waveguide. This highly reflective mirror obtains high reflectivity (R>0.999) as well as lower reflectivity-based on the design parameters. In addition, the suggested design may yield low transmission losses, i.e., R+T≈1. The highly reflective mirror is the main building block of a high-Q cavity using one dimensional photonic crystal structures.
