The energy spread is even more critical for the analysis of a reaction like np charge exchange (CHEX) which differs from the usual Regge phenomenology in that data on this reaction, with PL < 60 GeV/c shows \[3\]a dominant forward effect of the one pion exchange (OPE) mechanism and its associated corrections \[1,2\].T he persistence of the forward spike over this energy range is due to the nearness of the pion pole singularity, its large coupling and the kinematical constraints to the N-N problem. Thus, the expected suppression of low-lying trajectories does not show itself at the energy range which we are discussing. Indeed, an ISR study \[4\]o f the energy * Work supported in part by the Israel Commission for Basic Research and the United states Bi-National Science Foundation (BSF) Jerusalem.

N2 - It is shown that a simple Regge parametrization with π, ρ{variant} and A2 t-channel exchanges and their associated cuts account rather well for the I = 1 (t-channel exchange) nucleon-nucleon data available at incoming momenta up to 300 GeV/c. The polarization data on pp → nn at 8 GeV/c may require additional input. Critical comparison with other investigations are presented.
