Abstract

Complexity in the context of radiation and scattering of waves can be perceived as the analytical and computational difficulties encountered when a radiating system interacts with a medium or a scatterer that is described over a wide range of lengthscales. The problem of coupling across scales is addressed using the recently developed theory of multiresolution decomposition and wavelets. The multiresolution theory provided a natural framework for a resolution of the body response into macroscale and microscale components. Standard expressions describing the relation between the microscale response and the macroscale excitation is also derived.
