Abstract

The performance of multiprocessors has increased dramatically in the last years. Almost every conceivable parallel architecture has been built. We present a software oriented classification of parallel computers, which is based on their execution model, and give examples for each category of the classification. A survey of current software development tools for parallel computers is presented.
