A patient with multiple myeloma treated by melphalan terminated in erythroleukemia. The evolution of the leukemia was preceded by a protracted preleukemic phase, as evidenced by progressive pancytopenia. The possible implications of an early diagnosis of preleukemia in myeloma are discussed.
