Abstract

When yield is random and production is in lots, several successive lots may need to be attempted in order to satisfy a rigid demand. This problem is investigated using the 'stochastically proportional' yield concept which does not assume independence of units in a lot. The functional equation is shown to have explicit and highly interpretable solutions in some cases.
