Multidimensional Assessment of Computer-Supported Collaborative Knowledge Building

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

The presentation will offer a rationale for assessing collaborative knowledge building in asynchronous discussion forums and will present an assessment guide designed for this purpose. The guide consists of rubrics for assessing the so-called three Ps: quality of individual's contributions (Person), of group interactions (Process), and of the emergent knowledge network (Product). The design considerations will be outlined and quality measures of the assessment will be reported. To illustrate the use of the guide, score profiles on the dimensions of the three Ps for a given discussion thread will be presented. The presentation will conclude with suggestions for using the assessment guide to provide constructive feedback to instructors and students.
