Multiculturalism In Israel: a linguistic perspective

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Multicultural and multilingual societies such as Israel offer great opportunities for in-depth sociolinguistic research, including studies focusing on language maintenance and language shift. This article describes Israel’s linguistic reality, using as a conceptual framework Richard Ruiz’s renowned analysis of language planning and its implications for multilingual societies. 1 It then offers an alternative perspective on language maintenance, pointing out its relevance for language policy-makers in general and in Israel in particular.
