Abstract

The 3 types of dextrocardia are dextroversion, dextroposition and mirror image dextrocardia. The frequency of the latter ranges from 0.003% to 0.075%. Occasionally mirror image dextrocardia may be associated with additional intracardiac anomalies. A case of mirror image dextrocardia with situs inversus and coarctation of the aorta is described. The coarctation was successfully corrected through a right thoracotomy. This is the first known case of mirror image dextrocardia and coarctation. According to the accepted statistics, this combination of both anomalies in one individual occurs in only one out of 198,000,000, or in Israel with its present growth of population, once in 2828 yr.
