N2 - This conference paper reviews the microwave drill principles and theory, and discusses microwave-drill experiments conducted at Tel Aviv University in concrete, ceramics, glass, basalts, plastics, and bones. The inverse microwave-drill mechanism is presented as a means to melt locally and evaporate materials. Effects like fireball ejection and silicon doping are observed. A miniature 100-W transistor-based microwave drills is presented and its potential capabilities are discussed.
