Abstract

We advance a theory of microscopic solvent perturbations of pure radiative lifetimes, τr, of (aromatic) · (inert-gas)n heteroclusters, which originate from intermolecular interactions between molecular multicentre transition monopoles and atomic point transition dipoles. This theory accounts well for the experimental τr data of the S1 state of 9,10-dichloroanthracene·R (RAr, Kr, Xe) heteroclusters. τr is expected to serve as a useful probe for the interrogation of structure and dynamics of isomerization in heteroclusters.
