Abstract

Open coaxial cylindrical resonators (OCCR) are finding wide application in microwave radio physics and radio engineering. For many applied problems it is necessary to tune the OCCR within a frequency band; this involves certain difficulties. A tuning method has been described earlier employing an OCCR with a biconical horn. The tuning of such an OCCR within wide limits requires a significant increase in its size and the resulting construction is complicated. The purpose of this paper is to direct attention at another possible method of tuning OCCR's that is much simpler and more convenient than that described earlier. The essence of this method lies in the use of so-called semi-open resonators.
