Abstract

The membrane mobility agent, A2C, promotes fusion of hen red cells from several strains of Leghorn hens with high efficiency. Cells from Cornish hens are also easily fused by the same procedure, but cells from Rhode Island Red hens fuse more slowly and to a lesser extent under the same conditions. Cells from several strains of White Rock hens do not fuse when treated in the same way. A potentially useful new parameter of the genetic control of the behavior of membrane (and/or cytoskeletal structure) is thus indicated.
