Abstract
A malignant melanoma developed on the scalp of a 42-year-old woman more than 30 years after scalp irradiation for tinea capitis. Clinically atypical nevi developed on the chest wall of a 59-year-old women 5 months after radiotherapy to the breast and chest wall. In both cases the radiation therapy was assumed to contribute to the development of the changes. Literature data were reviewed, but could not supply convincing evidence for the role of ionizing radiation in the pathogenesis of melanoma.
