Magnetostriction of the model type-II superconductor NbTi

The pinning force in the critical state of the classical type-II superconductor NbTi was measured using dilatometric technique. Scaling in the peak region and at intermediate magnetic fields was also studied. Magnetic history dependence at low and intermediate magnetic fields was found and it was tentatively ascribed to the propagation of metastable vortex structures.
