Abstract

Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound surgery (MRgFUS) is a completely noninvasive treatment option for uterine fibroids, which received Food and Drug Administration clearance in 2004. During this procedure, magnetic resonance imaging offers anatomical, functional, and thermal guidance for safe delivery of the focused ultrasound beam. This is an outpatient treatment option, which is well tolerated by patients and results in sustained symptom relief. Patients return to work approximately 24 hours post treatment.
