Abstract

The Mössbauer effect in 57Fe is employed to study chemical reactions of iron vapor with ethylene and ethane at low temperatures. Based on isomer shift results it was found that iron dimers and higher polymers form chemical species with the matrix constituents with configurations similar to diamagnetic covalent complexes.
