Abstract

1. (1) In the mesencephalic cat electrical stimulation of the corticofugal fibres at the level of the pons after sectioning the bulbar pyramids produces locomotion. 2. (2) The effects of stimulation of the pons pyramids and the "locomotor region" of the tegmentum situated at the boundary of the midbrain with the pons are summated. After complete destruction of the "locomotor region" stimulation of the pyramids also ceases to induce walking. 3. (3) After removal of the rostral section of the midbrain locomotion usually cannot be induced either by stimulating the tegmentum or by stimulating the pyramids. 4. (4) Bilateral destruction of the red nuclei does not prevent the induction of walking on stimulating the "locomotor region" of the tegmentum.
