N2 - Neoglycoproteins specific for liver and phagocytic cell membrane lectins inhibited the blood clearance and the attachment to mouse macrophages of group B streptococci bearing surface sugar residues specific for the lectins. It is concluded that lectins present on the surfaces of liver, and other phagocytic cells are involved in the elimination of invading bacteria by receptor-mediated phagocytosis, which does not require the participation of opsonins.
