Linearized homogeneous constraints in structural design

Properties of the linearized truss optimization problem are presented. It is shown that since the nodal displacements and member stresses are special homogeneous functions in the design variables, the linearized constraints have interesting and useful properties. The nature of the linearized structural problem in the cross-sectional and compliance design spaces are evaluated and compared. The theory is illustrated with examples from the classical three-bar truss problem.
