Abstract

To the Editor: We read with interest the article by J. B. Zalokar et al.,1 who reported that a high initial leukocyte count was a highly significant predictor of myocardial infarction. We would like to raise a similar hypothesis regarding leukopenia and a low incidence of myocardial infarction. The Yemenite Jews have long been known to have a very low incidence of myocardial infarction in comparison with other ethnic groups in Israel.2 Although the presence of the various risk factors for myocardial infarction differs in the Yemenite Jews from that in other people in Israel,3 in the light of the.
