Abstract
Next to the terminology Persai and Ellenes, Ancient Greeks used a third category of workers in the 3rd century AD in Egypt, namely Arabes. Although the use of this terminology has been studied well already, the semantic variety wasn't explained decently. Also the relation in meaning regarding to ethnic and professionnal category of these so-called 'Arabs' demands for further study. The present article aims to clarify the meaning of this Arabes-category.
