Abstract
There are three forms of cutaneous leishmaniasis - acute leishmaniasis, chronic leishmaniasis and leishmania recidivans. The latter term was given to the reactivated form of the disease by Dostrovsky in 1934. Leishmanid is a very rare manifestation of cutaneous leishmaniasis in which a papular eruption appears in a different site from the primary focus of leishmaniasis. The leishmanid does not contain organisms and is associated with strongly positive leishmanin skin tests. The eruption is asymptomatic and disappears spontaneously within two to three months. According to Farah, leishmanid has usually been described in acute leishmaniasis, but may also occur in leishmania recidivans. Herein we describe a further case of leishmanid in a patient with leishmaniasis recidivans.
