Abstract

Part of a special issue dedicated to the memory of Arieh Lewy. The writer explores large-scale testing. After outlining purposes of large-scale testing, she considers benefits and pitfalls of such testing for students, teachers, administrators, parents, and policymakers. She then describes factors that affect uses and consequences of testing results. Finally, she makes recommendations for improving large-scale testing.
