N2 - ISTIMES project aims at designing, assessing and promoting an ICT-based system, exploiting distributed and local sensors, for non-destructive electromagnetic monitoring and diagnostics of the critical transport infrastructures. The integration of electromagnetic technologies with new ICT information and telecommunications systems will enable remotely controlled monitoring and surveillance and quasi real time data imaging of the critical transport infrastructures. The outcomes of the monitoring system is in terms of detailed information and images of the infrastructure status, at different spatial and temporal scales, so to provide a support to the decision for emergency and disasters stakeholders. The new approach proposed in the ISTIMES project exploits highly significant scientific and technological solutions and is of significant interest since it represents a turning point in the traditional management policy by end-users and stakeholders. Finally, it is worthy notingthat the ISTIMES approach can be straightforwardly extended to the larger arena of the civil infrastructure and cultural heritages.
