IR-thermography for strain analysis in pultruded fiber reinforced plastics

Abstract

A thermoelastic stress analysis (TSA) method used to determine the sum of the direct in-plane strains on the surface of thick-section FRP layered composites was proposed. The TSA method was successful in predicting the strains in the linear elastic range at frequencies as low as 5Hz and as high as 30 Hz. Thus, the proposed TSA method can be used to examine various defects and assess the manufacturing quality of pultruded composite structural members.
