Abstract

This chapter introduces this Handbook on Cities and Complexity. It follows the discussion in the Handbook that commences with the general theory of complexity and its application to the domain of cities. It then reviews of the leading CTC (complexity theories of cities), and the links between complexity, languages and cities. Next come discussions of the various modelling approaches and finally the implications of CTC to urban planning and design. The book concludes with an Epilogue on “Cities and Complexity in the Time of COVID-19.
