Abstract

We advance a spectroscopic method for the identification of the threshold for intrastate anharinonic mixing in a bound level structure of large molecules, which rests on the observation of band splitting in the energy-resolved fluorescence spectra of the isolated molecule seeded in supersonic beams. The threshold for intrastate anharmonic mixing in the S1 state of tetracene is exhibited at the excess vibrational energy of EV ≈ 1000 cm-1, below the onset of the vibration quasicontinuum, which occurs at EV ≈ 1800 cm-1.
