Abstract

Intradural spinal cord tumors (SCTs) compose a heterogeneous group of neoplasms. Over the past four decades, the overall mortality and morbidity caused by these tumors has been dramatically reduced. The advantages of early diagnosis via modern imaging and modern neurosurgical tools such as intraoperative electrophysiologic monitoring, the surgical microscope, and the ultrasonic aspirator have led to an improvement in surgical morbidity and in general prognosis. This chapter focuses on common intradural primary SCTs, both intramedullary and extramedullary.
