Abstract

In this investigation, the interface fracture behavior of plain laminate woven composites (0°/90° and +45°/-45°) are presented. An accurate analytical-numerical method is developed to obtain stress intensity factors, the energy release rate and phase angles of such an interface delami-nation in a plain weave, multidirectional (MD), carbon/epoxy composite. Tests are carried out to evaluate the nearly mode I fracture toughness G Ic and R-curve behavior of this composite. The research methodology combines analytical, numerical and experimental work.
