Abstract

To the Editor: Amiodarone, a benzofuran derivative, is used extensively as an antianginal and antiarrhythmic agent.1 2 3 It seems important to report our experience with an interaction between amiodarone and warfarin sodium because of the danger inherent in the use of the drugs concomitantly. Nine patients followed in our anticoagulant clinic were given amiodarone while taking warfarin sodium, which had been prescribed six to 60 months previously. The values of one-stage prothrombin had been stable and within the accepted therapeutic range. Five of the patients presented with bleeding phenomena three to four weeks after amiodarone was added; four had macroscopic hematuria,.
