Instabilities in Upward Propagating Flames

Abstract

A derivation is presented of a nonlinear evolution equation describing the dynamics of a flame front propagating in a vertical channel: [Formula Ommitted] where G is the buoyancy parameter and the average of over the channel cross-section. The velocity and equilibrium form of the distorted flame front are calculated, and the effect of the suppression of cellular structure in upward propagating flames is described.
