note = "Funding Information: Pion-nucleus inelastic scattering can be used to study both the pion-nucleus interaction and nuclear structure. With reliable nuclear wave functions, inelastic scattering is a useful test of our understanding of the reaction mechanism. In contrast, explicit nuclear structure information is obtained by Comparing the selectivity of pion inelastic scattering with that of other probes of differing spin, isospin, etc. We have begun a systematic study of low-energy pion inelastic scattering on several nuclei in the mass region A = 12-209. The present results were obtained with 50 MeV incident 7r+ mesons and include nuclear excitation energies up to \textasciitilde{}25 MeV. This letter is a report on these first results \textbackslash{}[1\textbackslash{}].A lthough only a small amount of data is presented here, these results are nevertheless significant in that they comprise a partial evaluation of pion-nucleus inelastic scattering calculations on nuclei other than carbon.
