Abstract

In this conceptual study, we aim at improving micro-seismic localization through velocity model updates. By applying a new migration velocity analysis method, we formulate model updating as an inverse problem with the migrated gathers' flatness as an objective function. We solve it using global optimization techniques and show the improvement of the final localization following velocity model updates using a simple 2-D synthetic example.
