Improvement of light efficiency of the optimal filter for optical pattern recognition

Abstract

We propose a method of constructing the filters for reliable pattern recognition in an optical setup. The filters based on a phase-only filter are designed by applying a quantization technique to the optimal filter. High light efficiency and discrimination capability close to that of the optimal filter can be obtained by the proposed method. Computer simulation results are shown and discussed.
