Abstract

Specific antibodies to fava bean were demonstrated in the serum of a patient with favism by various immunologic methods, including hemagglutination, hemagglutination inhibition, precipitation, and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis. A possible role of an immune mechanism in the pathogenesis of favism is pointed out.
