Abstract

Micturating cysto-urethrography (MCU) was performed in the preoperative workup of 110 patients with hypospadias. We found a high percentage of pathology in otherwise asymptomatic patients: meatal stenosis, vesico-ureteral reflux and Mullerian duct remnants. Abnormalities were found in 59% of patients studied. Postoperatively studies were done in patients with fistulae or with voiding difficulties. In these patients the MCU was very helpful in demonstrating the pathology of the underlying lesion and resulted in an improved surgical approach. Cysto-urethrography is therefore very useful in the evaluation of the lower urinary tract in hypospadias and in the evaluation of complications such as fistulae and strictures after surgical correction.
