Abstract

In order to evaluate the wave loads on large ocean structures we consider the hydrodynamic force and moment acting on a slender rigid cylinder moving unsteadily in a non-uniform ambient potential flow field of a perfect fluid. The motion consists of both translation and rotation. The leading oder loading terms of the corresponding theory of perturbation are found and the influence of the cylinder's ends is accounted for.
