Abstract
The effect of gas injection on the flow of liquid-solid mixtures of coarse particles was examined. It is shown that the main effect of the gas addition is owing to the formation of gas pockets which reduce the pressure drop as well as the slurry superficial velocity. Based on this result the combined use of larger diameter pipes and gas injection is shown to be a practical procedure to reduce the pressure drop of a slurry flowing at a given rate.
