High-energy pp scattering and hadronic structure of the proton

Abstract

Present high-energy large-angle pp angular distribution in the momentum range 8-21 GeV/c is investigated using an optical-model description. Observed differential scattering cross sections can be explained in terms of two hadronic distributions of the proton and Lorentz contraction of the distributions. It is inferred that these distributions interact by exchanging vector mesons:, and a new one, , having the same quantum numbers as.
