Abstract
Four cases are described in which a diagnosis of herpes simplex encephalitis was made on clinical or laboratory evidence. They illustrate various therapeutic options, including surgical extirpation of the diseased lobe, and the use of 5 iodo 2 oxyuridine or steroid treatment, which may be applied to individual circumstances.
