Hermaphroditos and an Egyptian-Style Kneeling Figure from Area LL at Caesarea Maritima

Two sculpted images were found in a Fatimid-period layer during the 2016 excavations conducted on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority in Area LL at Caesarea Maritima. These include a fragment of a Hermaphroditos anasyromenos and an unfinished, kneeling figure in a Roman Egyptianizing style. In addition to the identification and description of these Roman items, the article discusses where each piece could have been held until the Muslim occupation in the seventh century CE, their possible significance, and whether the two images can be linked at an interpretative level.
