Heavy quark production in heavy ion collisions

In this paper we describe the formalism for calculating the two photon production of cc and bb quarks in heavy ion collisions. In particular we evaluate the cross sections, as functions of W² (the invariant mass squared), and rapidity of the quark-antiquark system. The sensitivity of our results for different parametrizations of the nuclear charge form factor is discussed.
