Abstract

Sensing the high strains area in the patch over the crack is the goal of the proposed SHM concept. It is clearly seen that the thermally induced strain in the patch, over the crack area, changes significantly. It is concluded that a sensor net with a low spatial resolution should be sufficient to detect the existence of a critical crack.
