Abstract
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a molecule of paramount importance for successful pregnancy initiation and maintenance in women. It acts by endocrine, paracrine, and autocrine mechanisms that activate multiple cellular signaling pathways in gestational as well as in non-gestational tissues. Therefore, hCG could be beneficial in the treatment of women with recurrent pregnancy losses (RPL). Clinical evidence suggests that hCG has a beneficial effect, even though the available data are still not sufficient to firmly recommend widespread use to prevent RPL. Consequently, further randomized, controlled clinical trials of hCG are required in appropriate women with a history of RPL.
