Abstract

In a controlled study, the authors examined the hands of 50 disabled patients who for more than five years have been confined to a wheelchair or who have continually used crutches. The findings, when compared to those of a control group, indicated that constant and prolonged use of a wheelchair or of crutches, caused a variety of painful, debilitating and destructive problems of the hand and wrist.
