Abstract
Prisoners of war (POWs) are a consequence of military action and their care is the responsibility of their captors. Although the medical care of sick and wounded prisoners poses unique problems in planning and health care delivery, virtually nothing has been written on the subject. This paper, based on our experience in treating prisoners from the 1973 and 1982 conflicts, proposes guidelines for the establishment of a prisoner of war medical treatment facility in a civilian hospital.
