Abstract

A general Greens function theory for the excitation of and scattering from sub-diffraction chains is developed. A Z transform is applied to the discrete dipole approximation of the chain and the general analytic properties of the chains spectrum are explored in the complex Z plane. It is shown that a continuous spectra may be excited. The roles of discrete and continuous spectra in the chain excitation are demonstrated.
