Abstract

The fabrication and operation of distributed feedback injection lasers is described. Most important are the DFB GaAs-GaAlAs lasers with separate optical and carrier confinement, that are operated continuously at room temperature. These lasers lased in a single longitudinal mode, with a threshold current density of about 3. 5 kA/cm**2, and light output of about 10 mW. They may play a major role in optical communication and in integrated optics.
